Five steps to delivering world-class Italian espresso.
Pulling a perfect shot of espresso can be intimidating at first. But let us reassure you. There’s no other brand in the world with more expertise and devotion to this craft than Segafredo. Everything we do is about sharing this passion with you.
Every story of espresso begins with the Italian tradition of the 5Ms—five words that explain the keys to great espresso. They are: la miscela (the blend), Il macinadosatore (the grinder), la macchina (the espresso machine), la mano (the hand or skill of the barista), and la missione (the mission).
It starts with the blend. Because an authentic espresso can’t be made from a single variety of coffee bean. It takes a blend of the best arabica and robusta beans. When they’re roasted and blended together by a master roaster, the espresso reveals itself, capped with golden crema, without a hint of bitterness, delivering a silky, smooth finish.
But a blend isn’t enough. The beans have to be milled perfectly. Professional grinders refine beans to ensure the ideal consistency for brewing espresso.
The Espresso Machine
Now the dance begins between the coffee and the water. Like an altar to coffee, the espresso machine is the instrument of devotion to espresso. And here, precise state-of-the-art engineering makes all the difference. Whether a manual lever operated by a trained barista, or a fully automatic machine, you’re ensured a premium espresso.
The barista is a professional dedicated to the craft of coffee. They are experts in machine maintenance, coffee preparation, and have honed an expert palate to deliver crema with integrity, perfectly heated cups, and the exact, delectable taste that ensures repeat customers.
Ultimately, our sole mission as the world’s only family-owned and -operated, 100% vertically integrated coffee company is this: To share our love of coffee, and the coffee culture, with you from the coffee plant to the coffee cup (“dalla piantana alla tazzina”).
For Segafredo, this is where we weave our talents and our instruments together—for this pinnacle moment.
